Religion in Turiel can be based around actual gods, Ideals, spirits or in some cases very powerful monsters. From the shining temples of the City of Spires to the kobolds that worship a red dragon in a cave network. In Turiel players are encouraged to either use gods made by staff or other players or if they are really inclined to make there own. This page will serve kind of as the organizing page for all major gods and religions of the world of Turiel.

Major Gods

Major gods are the ones who have thousands of worshipers across nations. Any racial god of one of the bigger races such as the elves and orcs would be a major god as is anything whos purview is wide and prominent. Major gods are universally the most powerful beings in existence and when they do decide to speak to mortals they never speak on equal terms. It is very rare for a Major God to deal with anyone who isnt a high ranked member of their clergy and those who speak directly to the deity in question are usually promoted very quickly. Major gods tend to be very sparse with Avatars on the material plane as their very presence can destabilize nations so they will more likely do subtle signs and messages to the priesthood.

Minor Gods

Minor Gods are the gods with small congregations and fairly specific purview. Most Minor gods are more in the realm of small cults or in organizations that only number a few hundred at most. This means they arent nearly as powerful as more established gods but they are more active with communication and tend to be more humble or at least more down to earth than higher gods. Minor gods are more active with avatars and messages since they cant cause nearly as much damage but they are still usually much more powerful than most mortals.

Even gods have rules

A big part of being a god is oddly limitations. A god in its own realm can do almost anything. From creating life to changing the plane's fundamental laws. They are the final arbiters. But outside the plane they control and especially on the Material plane they can only influence not directly intervene. This is why The Crossroads sucks people into a pocket dimension to do its negotiations and why gods use Avatars instead of handling business themselves. But most famous as a violation of this rule of the Mad God of the Halflings Sydis. He was forcibly summoned onto the material plane and was driven mad by what he could not control, by too many aspects of the world that were not his. So all he knew to do was to expand his power and make the world his. In this he was driven mad and had to be sealed away by his own worshipers. No other god wishes to suffer this fate, to be mad and possibly even dying as they are tainted by the wild magics of the material plane.
